Description

"Street Cries", Ashley Hutchings' latest project carries on in the tradition of his previous groundbreaking concepts (Morris On, Rise Up Like The Sun). It consists of 12 songs, each based on a traditional song which retains the original tune, but where Ashley has re-written the words, setting them in the present day.The concept works beautifully, mixing the familiar with the novel and challenging us to look at the historical continuity of our lives.

While "Street Cries" is very definitely an Ashely Hutchings' album, he has recruited a cast of great contemporary interpreters of traditional song to sing these songs including Dick Gaughan, June Tabor, John Tams, Coope, Boyes & Simpson, Cara Dillon, Kathryn Roberts, Vin Garbutt and Judy Dunlop. The 20 page booklet contains Ashley's notes on the project and all lyrics to the songs, including new lyrics and the original traditional ones. A collection of dark traditional songs re-set in the present day by great contemporary singers of traditional song.
