Description

A new album from Georgie Fame is always an understated event - no fanfares or marketing hype needed! His popularity garnered over fifty-plus years guarantees an eager audience for each and every new album. 'Lost in a Lover's Dream' is a laid-back affair of romantic ballads and philosophical blues featuring Fame singing in the intimate setting of just guitar and bass.

The album opens with the classic Andy Fairweather-Low pop classic ''Wide-Eyed and Legless'', followed by a mix of popular standards and Fame originals. ''Skiiing Blues'' and the medley ''There's No More Blue Time / Breezin' All the Way'' are paricular highlights. On the popular standards front there's ''Cry Me a River'', ''My Foolish Heart'' and ''I Can't Get Started (With You)''. ''Blossom'' is for singer Blossom Dearie, who praised Fame in the 60's with her own composition, ''Sweet Georgie Fame''. All in all this is an album that qualifies the fact that Georgie Fame is the most original jazz voice this country has ever produced. Fifty-plus years in the business clearly hasn't diminished his voice or creativity!

Georgie Fame has recorded over 20 albums and 14 hit singles. He is equally at home in the company of jazz groups, big bands, orchestras, rock groups and his own band The Blue Flames, who were the opening act for the first Motown Review concert tour of the UK in the early 60's. He toured the UK and Europe with the Count Basie Orchestra and as a sideman recorded with Gene Vincent, Prince Buster, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Joan Armatrading, Andy Fairweather-Low, Alan Price, Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, and Van Morrison among many others.

Personnel: Georgie Fame (vocals), Primoz Grasis (guitar), Mario Mavrin (bass guitar)

Press Quotes

(4 stars) The two guitars provide an ideal setting for Fame to sing simply and gently, most memorably on such lovely ballads as Don't Blame Me and I Can't Get Started - both with rarely-sung verses - and a string of Fame's own compositions.

Scotland on Sunday, (Alison Kerr), November 4, 2012

(4 stars) Six decades into his remarkably consistent career, Fame has made one of his best albums...it opens with a lovely version of "Wide-Eyed and Legless.

The Independent On Sunday, (Phil Johnson), December 9, 2012

Fame delivers a dozen perfect miniatures...I particularly like his song in tribute to the late Blossom Dearie, warm and heartfelt, but also witty and done with the lightest of touches.

The Observer, (Dave Gelly), October 14, 2012

To hear Fame in an intimate trio setting of just guitar and bass is a real delight, not least because it allows you to completely focus in on his wonderfully rich vocal timbre.

Jazzwise, (Peter Quinn), December 2012 / January 2013
