Description

June Tabor's debut album from 1976 introduced one of the all time great British singers with a predominantly traditional collection of songs ranging from Child Ballads "Bonny May", "Young Waters", "Waly Waly" to the classic ballads "Reyandine" and "The Plains of Waterloo" and Eric Bogle's monumental anti-war song "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda".

The guitar accompaniments by another great folk performer of the time, Nic Jones, are intricate and wholly sympathetic to the songs and June's vocals. "Airs And Graces was greeted by rave reviews firmly establishing June Tabor as a force to be reckoned with. The Daily Telegraph said at the time, "She has the rare gift of releasing the innermost warmth and light of the old songs." And now, almost 30 years later, Robin Denselow of THE GUARDIAN has this to say: " June Tabor is far more than a folk singer; she is quite simply one of Britain's greatest interpreters of popular song with an extraordinary range and the ability to mix intensity, passion and drama."
