Description

The legendary soul/funk bassist Larry Graham returns with his band Graham Central Station for a stunning new album featuring special guest performances from Prince and Raphael Saadiq.

'Raise Up' includes new recordings of three of the band's favourite songs ("Now Do U Wanta Dance", "It Ain't No Fun To Me" and "Its Alright"), as well as ten highly anticipated new songs in a sophisticated mix of bass driven funk and soul with infectious horn lines and powerful vocals.

It's a must have album, with its special guest performances by Prince on three songs ("Raise Up", "Shoulda Coulda Woulda" and "Movin'") and Raphael Saadiq on the song "One Day". Larry Graham first came to note with Sly and the Family Stone in the 1960s and '70s before founding Graham Central Station. "I have been living in Minnesota for the last 14 years" Larry Graham says, "and neighbours with Prince - we're like family." Raphael Saadiq said of his collaboration with Larry: "I was raised up on Graham Central Station. Last year Larry performed on my album and now I'm happy to be performing on his."

Press Quotes

(5 stars) At 66, Graham sounds like he could out-play and dance anyone...Shoulda-Coulda-Woulda, featuring Prince, and the epic No Way are the highlights but the whole album sounds like a modern soul-funk classic.

The Sunday Express, (Martin Townsend), October 21, 2012

(4 stars) Larry Graham has more funk power in his right thumb than most bands can generate between them...it's demonstrated here on new material and re-recorded GCS classics...every element is sculpted for maximum funk impact.

The Independent, (Andy Gill), October 20, 2012

(4 stars) The CD is a triumphant return after a 14 year absence...It's great his mates Price and Raphael are involved, but this album really does stand up on its own two feet for its vitality, its funk and fun factors, the sheer ensemble talent and most of all; the strength of the material.

Blues & Soul, (Simon Redley)

The playing is excellent through-out and Graham's baritone is in fine fettle.

MOJO, (Geoff Brown), December 2012
