Description

EXCLUSIVE SIGNED EDITION, LAST FEW REMAINING COPIES.

Already being heralded as their most accomplished album to date, Static On The Airwaves is the sound of a band whose incisive lyrics, innate musicality and passion have continued to improve rather than diminish in nearly a quarter of a century of writing, recording and performing. Produced by Sean Lakeman, who is renowned for producing his brother's Mercury-nominated and gold-selling albums as well as Letters From The Underground (Levellers' previous album), Static On The Airwaves was recorded 'as live' at Sono Studios in Prague and mixed in New York by the legendary Victor Van Vugt (PJ Harvey, Beth Orton, Nick Cave). In many ways Static On The Airwaves represents a coming of age for Levellers; it is unquestionably their most mature and considered release to date and is an album rich in reasoned clarity and insightful observance of the world in which we currently live.

A Track By Track synopsis of the album by the band:
We Are All Gunmen - 'Where Constable paints awesome skies, instead of macing suspects' eyes'. A manifesto for a just society.

Truth Is - 'You said it loud and clear we have to work, we have to earn our pay. Well I'm sorry not today.' Message of empowerment for the individual inspired by the band's tour to Athens in 2009.

After The Hurricane - 'It may be the faintest of glows'. The last days of Bush through to the election of Obama.

Our Forgotten Towns - 'There's nowhere open here anymore'. An elegy to the ailing British high streets which have been usurped by the ubiquitous out-of-town shopping centres.

No Barriers - 'Dare you reach into my world?'. The difficulty of changing tack once you have set off on a course in life, and the barriers that exist (both real and imagined) when trying to doing so.

Alone In This Darkness - 'Here am I, Hypnotized'. A song about love and loss.

Raft Of The Medusa - 'All at sea, adrift and alone'. A metaphor for modern Europe... The true story of the running aground of French Naval frigate, the Méduse, where the few who survived endured dehydration, cannibalism and madness.

Mutiny - 'We've gone against the King today'. The tale of the 1917 Étaples Mutiny by British Troops in France.

Traveller - 'Stranded fish out of water'. Doesn't matter where you go, you can't escape yourself.

Second Life - 'It's better than real life, even better than a real wife'. Sarcastic take on the ubiquitous nature of spending too long immersed within online virtual reality worlds.

The Recruiting Sergeant - 'On a Hercules transporter to fight the Afghani, with a rifle in my hands to set the country free'. Contemporary reworking featuring guests Divokej Bill of the cautionary traditional Black Watch anthem.

Press Quotes

"This affirmative and emboldened revival by the Alt. Rock rebels is a career best. The production skill of West country folk-rock alumnus Sean "brother of Seth" Lakeman frames their hard-won, defiant and shrewdly sculptured songs magnificently. Tune in."
