Description

The new album 'Hijo de Hombre,( Son of Man )' by UK guitarist Richard Durrant is inspired by a lifelong fascination with Paraguay. The title comes from the great Paraguayan novel by Agusto Roa Bastos and Durrant uses this as the music provides a colourful glimpse of 20th & 21st century Paraguay.

The great guitarist and composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré is included alongside his lesser known contemporary Quirino Báez Allende and two composers whom Richard met during his 2011 concert tour in Paraguay in 2011 - veteran guitarist Felipe Sosa and the young harpist Kike Pedersen. Durrant also includes his solo offering "Apreton de Manos" written during his first visit.
This album gives a new and fascinating insight into this beautiful repertoire as well as what is to many a mysterious, almost mythological South American country.

Durrant plays solo guitar for most of the album, but, remarkably, also double bass and cajon on his arrangements.
