Recorded in Venice, California, Don Grusin composed and recorded this solo piano album using the loops and samples that he collected over the past few years as his accompanying rhythm section. The electronics and samples you hear are grooves from every musical genre, guitar licks, voices, dancers, people clapping and singing, birds, animals, and traditional percussion instruments from everywhere in the world. All of the compositions are by Don and were inspired by his experience of living in an idyllic neighbourhood, Venice in Los Angeles; a beautiful ocean community... the beach, the carnival boardwalk atmosphere, hanging with the people in local bars and coffee shops, and in particular, the contrasting personalities of the local streets for which he named the tracks on this album. The younger brother of pianist and film composer Dave Grusin, Don is a songwriter, producer and keyboardist. He has produced and recorded scores of albums, including several on his brother's former label GRP Records.
