  • Description

This 71-minute CD (20 tunes) is comprised of music previously released on four Storyville LPs in 1980, 1986 & 1987. The CD is in five parts, each featuring Jesper Thilo together with a prominent American musician: Clark Terry, Harry Sweets Edison, Roland Hanna, Kenny Drew and Al Grey. Besides the famous American guests, these sessions also feature the best Danish jazz musicians. Most of the music was recorded in the studio in Copenhagen, except for one live session from Tivoli Gardens. Jesper Thilo is the most popular jazz musician in Denmark today; he also one of the absolute best in all of Europe. His tenor sax style is a beautiful blend of Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Zoot Sims, Paul Gonsalves and Dexter Gordon. Thilo plays wonderfully throughout, whether he’s interpreting a sensitive ballad like Stella By Starlight or a burning tune like Cherokee. Jesper Thilo – tenor sax, Clark Terry, Harry “Sweets Edison – trumpet, Al Grey – trombone, Kenny Drew, Roland Hanna, Ole Koch Hansen – piano, Jesper Lundgaard, Mads Vinding, Hugo Rasmussen – bass, Billy Hart, Alex Riel, Svend Erik Nørregaard, Aage Tanggaard – drums, Ole Ousen – guitar
