Description
This 3-CD set brings together all three of the works by Carl Orff that make up 'Trionfi', the musical trilogy which includes the composer's celebrated Carmina Burana alongside two other cantatas, Carmina Catulli, and Trionfo di Afrodite. On this series of recordings from 1974, which were personally authorised by the composer, the conductor is Ferdinand Leitner.
Leitner was not only renowned for his performances and recordings of the operas of Wagner, Richard Strauss, and Mozart, but was also a champion of contemporary music, particularly that of Orff and Karl Amadeus Hartmann. Here he conducts the Cologne Radio Choir, the Tölzer Children's Choir, and the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra. The featured soloists include Ruth-Margret Pütz (soprano), Michael Cousins (tenor), Donald Grobe (tenor), Barry McDaniel (baritone) and Roland Herrmann (bass).
