  • Description

This recording features some of the popular compositions by the fascinating and eccentric composer, Erik Satie. Satie played a unique role in the development of modern French music, as his music was ahead of its time and regarded as timeless. Satie’s innovation and creativity had a great influence on his colleagues Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Francis Poulenc, as well as many modern composers. It is in the voluminous works for the piano that the essence of Satie’s genius is manifested. In this very personal mode of expression, Satie’s development as the composer of the innocent but daring Sarabandes to the remarkable Nocturnes is unmasked, revealing infinite imagination, cunning musicianship, and a taste for the sublime and the grotesque. Peter Kraus guitarist and arranger has concertized across Europe and Mexico, has participated in seminars on 16th and 17th Century music, and teaches classical guitar in the Los Angeles area. Peter has been associated with the Beyond Baroque Foundation in Venice, California, as this group has been largely instrumental in the completion of the Satie arrangements. Mark Bird has been an active recording and concert artist in the Los Angeles area for several years. He composes soundtracks for films and carries on a classical-guitar teaching schedule. Having participated in various concerts with Peter Kraus, he was invited to collaborate on this recording. Personnel: Peter Kraus, Mark Bird (guitar)
