That includes all of Bird's studio masters with strings, which initially appeared on Parker With Strings (Clef Records MGC-675), as well as his professionally recorded Carnegie Hall set, fi rst issued as Midnight Jazz at Carnegie Hall (Verve MV-2562). As a bonus, a rare alternate take of "Laura" has been added. CHARLIE PARKER, alto sax on all tracks, accompanied by string orchestras conducted by Jimmy Carroll, Joe Lipman, and Neal Hefti. Recorded with members of the NBC Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, along with a jazz rhythm section of Stan Freeman, Ray Brown and Buddy Rich with arrangement by Ray Carroll featuring Parker's bebop alto in front, this legendary session is as much about Parker's enthusiasm for classical orchestral music as it was for the foresight of producer and record label boss Norman Granz in facilitating it. Recorded between 1948 and 1952, New York.
