  • Description

Suffolk born antique furniture restorer and musician Ady Johnson, almost lost both his livelihoods after severing two tendons in his barre finger with a chisel. Fortunately he made a full recovery. Having already had success as lead singer with Essex Hammond Organ-driven band FaceFace, as well as gaining an Honours Degree in classical guitar performance, Ady decided to abandon the restoration trade and focus on a career in music. In 2011 Ady debuted his solo album Tell The Worry Dolls. Rooted in folk, blues and soul but with an off-kilter pop sensibility, the predominantly acoustic album received critically acclaimed reviews and regional and national radio airplay. Ady has gigged TTWD relentlessly since, headlined many shows and festivals and supported a wealth of artists including Ben Howard, Willy Mason , Scott Matthews, Chris Helm (The Sea Horses) and Shlomo. Numerous festival appearances include the Latitude festival back on his home Suffolk turf. More recently Ady's song 'Thank You for the Good Things' (Recorded by friend and musician Johnno Casson – AKA 'Snippet'), was chosen for Tom Robinson's BBC Introducing MixTape and also aired on his BBC6 Music show. As well as continuing with a busy live schedule, this year Ady began working with Mercury nominated/BBC award winning producer Gerry Diver (Lisa Knapp, Sam Lee, Mishaped Pearls). Instead of recording with a band, this time, Ady has employed the multi-instrumental talents of Gerry Diver to create a stripped back, low-fi, acoustic EP, which aims to highlight the soulful delivery and intimacy of Ady's performances. The title track 'Thank You for the Good Things', (Re-recorded for this release) is an ode to Ady's late Grandfather, under whom he received his antique restoration apprenticeship. The summer of 2014 saw the completion of 'The Last Man', a short film by East 6 Media which Ady was commissioned to write the music for. Created entirely from photographic stills and inspired by Chris Marker's La Jetée (1962), 'The Last Man' will be entered for short film festivals in the New Year. In August, Ady embark on his 'New York Tour' which included shows in five characterful venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Thrilled with the reception from the New Yorkers, Ady plans to return to the US in the New Year. Now back in the UK and based in London, Ady continues with live shows. A recent support spot with Scott Matthews, saw Scott joining Ady on one of his songs. The partnership may lead to future collaborations in 2015. Ady is currently applying the finishing touches to his 'Thank You for the Good Things – EP', which is scheduled for release in January 2015. The EP is intended as a taster for a follow-up album later in the year.
