Alex Haynes is an intense and engaging singer, songwriter and guitarist from the UK - His sound is largely filtered through the influence of the blues from the elemental approach of John Lee Hooker to the tough sound of early-Black Keys with shades of RL Burnside's hypnotic style and some Brit Blues from 60s-era Fleetwood Mac. However, when Alex sings his impressive vocals betray his soul influences. When not playing solo, he performs as Alex Haynes & The Fever, whose most recent release Howl covers a variety of styles. While there are polished examples of the blues format, it is the ability to take other well-trodden musical paths without seeming stale or contrived that impresses most. They aren't the kind of band to stop at 12 bars and a couple of tempo changes and call that variety. Instead, the songs on this album keep listeners interested all the way through.
