I well recall the first time I met Shawn Cuddy. It was 1989 in the Royal Ballroom in Castlebar. I had the wonderful privilege of introducing the legendary Johnny Cash on stage that night. The opening act was a young 26 year old from Camross in County Laois making his debut... and what an honour it was for Shawn to play support to one of the greatest icons in the history of country music. On stage and off stage Shawn is one sound gentleman. For the past 20 years he has organised his annual get-togethers which attract regulars from England, Scotland and all over Ireland. He plays regular dance shows each week and also performs in Spain and Portugal. This album, Reflections, is his 10th to date and it is dedicated to the many people who have stodd with him faithfully down the years and all who continue to come on board. The 16 track collection features many songs that are close to his heart. There are standards like "Little Ole Wine Drinker Me", "Little Arrows", "Locklin's Bar", "Two Loves", and the haunting "Ballad of Lucy Jordan". He has also included "Mother", a song by Isla Grant, as well as other country favourites and medleys from the 1950's and 60's. The album, recorded in Shed Studios, Athlone was arranged and produced by Dessie Sheerin and Bob Condon. It is a privilege to write these few notes for the album. Shawn is one of the hardest working entertainers on the circuit. He always makes time for his fans and friends. All those years after playing support to Johnny Cash, Shawn Cuddy still walks the line in style.
