Description
A real discovery and the first time ever release for this long lost set by one of the most prominent and best loved figures in the 'golden era' of black jazz in London in the late fifties.
Here - recorded on a hot June night in 1960 in the old IBC Studios in Portland Place, London - he's very much pre-Trane "old school", but who has moved forward with the post-bop movement. You'll hear Hawkins, some Don Byas or Lucky Thompson maybe, even some (again pre-Trane) Benny Golson.
Personnel: Wilton "Bogey" Gaynair (tenor saxophone) / Ellsworth "Shake" Keane (trumpet, flugelhorn) / Terry Shannon (piano) / Jeff Clyne (bass) / Bill Eyden (drums). Produced by Tony Hall.
