Scotia Nova: Songs for The Early Days of a Better Nation

This album is released as a companion to the Luath Press Ltd. book of poems: 'Scotia Nova- Poems for THe Early Days of a Better Nation' published in 2014. A steering group consisting of Gavin MacDougall (Luath), Alistair Findlay (author, Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis (The Cast), Ian McCalman and Ian Green was formed and invitations were sent to writers the group believed would be interested in the project. The response was tremendous and 18 songs were eventually selected and recorded. There is a wide variety of song-writing styles and singers and many of these fine songs are sure to find their way into Scotland's song tradition. This is a unique and important project. ------------------------------------ The songwriters are: Fiona J. Mackenzie (Gaelic), Yvonne and David Lyon, Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis, Gill Bowman, FIndlay Napier, Brian McNeill, Ian McCalman, Simon Kempston, Scott Murray, Chris Finegan, Duncan McCrone and Cy Jack, Frank Rae, Colin Donati, Alistair Findlay, Iain MacDonald, Charlie Milne and Martin Watkins. In most cases the songs have been recorded by the writers but in a couple of instances the writers invited other singers to interpret their work. The songs cover a broad sweep of the subject matter and there is wide variety of sounds and arrangements.
