Scotland's Voices
Description
Freelance writer Jim Gilchrist, in an article on the painting in the Scotsman Magazine, wrote "..there's a case for a companion 'Scotland's Voices' compilation recording a challenge perhaps, for a label such as Greentrax". The challenge was accepted by Greentrax and Jim Gilchrist agreed to help select the tracks and write the sleeve notes for such a compilation, while Sandy Moffat generously agreed to allow an image of the painting to be used as the front cover of the CD booklet.
The co-operation and enthusiasm of several record labels resulted in the inclusion of all the singers, musicians and poet Hugh MacDiarmid, surrounding Hamish Henderson in the painting, plus tracks by two singers not in the painting but who were contemporaries of those portrayed. Sixteen tracks are included on this outstanding Greentrax compilation.
