    This CD reissue of Big Mama Thornton's 1965 studio session in London is a pristine snapshot of the too-often-overlooked blues singer. In Europe features a top-notch band, including Buddy Guy (in absolutely peak form on lead guitar) and Fred McDowell (on slide), some of Thornton's best tunes - including "Hound Dog" of course - and six bonus tracks. The disc concludes with a rare interview clip of Thornton in conversation with Arhoolie Records founder Chris Strachwitz. These features make In Europe a must for collectors. Personnel: Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton (vocals, harmonica, drums); Buddy Guy (guitars); Fred McDowell (slide guitar); Walter "Shakey" Horton (harmonica); Eddie Boyd (piano, organ); Jimmy Lee Robinson (electric bass); Fred Below (drums).
