Description
Air Raid is the sequel to Air Song recorded by Masahiko Yuh a year earlier.
As in Air Song, the music is performed in a free, conversational manner with the direction set by Henry's various forceful horns.
The set has four lengthy Threadgill originals, each for a different lead instrument.
Henry uses the Chinese musette and alto saxophone on the title track, alto only on 'Midnight Sun', flute and hubkaphone on the sixteen minute 'Release' and tenor saxophone on 'Through A Keyhole Darkly.' (The hubkaphone was a percussive intrument put together by Threadgill using automobile hubcaps!) Like its predecessor Air Song, this too is a seminal recording from a revolutionary period in the never ending evolution of the jazz art. -
