  • Description

This is the second release on Challenge Classics from the highly-rated Belgian harpsichord soloist Ewald Demeyere. Entitled 'Harpsichord Laments of the 17th century', this collection of pieces features music by William Byrd, Johann Jacob Froberger, Thomas Tomkins, Louis Couperin, and Melchior Schildt.

The Belgian harpsichordist Ewald Demeyere studied harpsichord in 1997 with Jos van Immerseel at the Koninklijk Vlaams Muziekconservatorium of Antwerp. He has for many years been a member of the distinguished early music groups La Petite Bande and Il Fondamento, and has released many CDs on the Accent label, including discs of the Eight Keyboard Sonatas by Thomas Augustine Arne, sonatas and fugues by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Pièces de Clavecin by Joseph-Hector Fiocco, and sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti. In 2007 he founded the baroque orchestra Bach Concentus which has released two titles including a double set of overtures by Johann Bernhard Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. In 2012 Ewald Demeyere released a fine debut disc on Challenge Classics of harpsichord music by 18th century Flemish composers.
