Description
On his first solo album Vienna-based bassist and producer bernd ammannpresents his main instrument as the center of his compositions. The
electric bass is enhanced with the help of electronic aids and used for rhythmic structures, warm melodies and abtract effects. In this sound variety he orchestrates turmpet, oud, darbouka and beatboxing.
"Descending" is the first solo album of the Vienna-based bassist and producer Bernd Ammann. The title indicates the movement direction of the album: descending. The goal is to get to the bottom of the bass. He leaves his classic role and is heard in uniquely new sounds.
The background story of the album is a journey through space with a vaguely familiar narrator. The listener takes the entrance through the artistic cover design of Ulrich Frey: It reflects the infinite space of sonority and also the clear structures of the exactly interlinked rhythms. Artivive, which offers its "Augmented Reality for the Art" app, brings the printed cover to life.
The tracks of the album with names like Uneben, Oasis, Abdrift or Eisig are single, self-contained stories from the life of the narrator. The intimate melodies emerge in abstract landscapes over punchy bass lines. The listener experiences the intensity of individual moments.
Stylistically, "Descending" moves between emptiness and fullness: the music is complex but not overloaded. The basis is created by Bernd Ammann with his main instrument, the electric bass, which he records for rhythmic structures, warm melodies and abstract effects. In the resulting sound variety he orchestrates trumpet, oud, darbouka and beatboxing.
"Descending" gives the listener space and also creates vessels for their own thoughts, feelings and memories. For the familiar narrator of stories is ultimately his own imagination.
