In a Tom Waitsesque manner the music brings to life the sights and sounds of the circus as well as many of its characters – the misfits, the freaks, the performers, who make their life working on a traveling show. The album has garnered unanimous praise around the world. All Access magazine in Los Angeles said: "Circo de Teatro is a spectacle of sound. Think Fellini meets Estrella de Jalisco after they had coffee at the Country Music Hall of Fame".
