Description
With its 52-minute duration, López's "Second Chamber Symphony Op. 23 'A Vegso; Tavasz'" is the central work on this disc, drawing inspiration from various sources. This is the world premiere recording of this work as well as of the ensemble piece "Kampfhandlungen / Traumhandlungen Op. 11" [Scenes of Combat / Tissue of Dreams], which is marked by dark colors and sharp contrasts.
Born in Cuba, Jorge E. López was raised in the USA and lives in Austria today. Although he studied composition at the California Institute of the Arts, he describes himself as an autodidact. Extra-musical influences play a large role in his music, which doesn't fit neatly into any categories or schools of "New Music."
