Description
Surinder Sandhu is widely considered to be one of the most imaginative and exciting talents currently combining classical, jazz and world music. His new album is a typically stunning collage of Indian-influenced jazz and epic symphonic power, infused with his contemporary inventiveness.
Beginning life as a commission for Liverpool’s European City of Culture year, The Fictionist features the 75-piece Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO), conducted by Clarke Rundell, alongside Surinder’s band - Dave Clark (bass), Miles Levin (drums), Chris 'Beebe' Aldridge (saxes, clarinet), and Peter Brown (acoustic guitar) - plus special guests such as trombonist Dennis Rollins, trumpeter Bryan Corbett, kora player Tunde Jegede, tabla player Kousic Sen, and Black Voices Gospel Choir and Sense Of Sound Choir.
Surinder’s 2003 debut album, SauRang Orchestra, was recorded in three continents over a 12 month period, and featured guitar legend Steve Vai, British saxophonist Andy Sheppard, RLPO, and many eminent Indian soloists. SauRang Orchestra catapulted him into the spotlight, and his second album, Cycles and Stories, released the following year, kept him there.
