The Western Sizzlers sound like Status Quo, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke, Waylon Jennings and the Georgia Satellites all got together to make a good, old fashioned record and rock out just a little bit longer. That could be because it features Rick Richards of the Georgia Satellites and Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke.
A very famous country singer once said a real county song is defined by "Three chords and the truth". Every song on 'For Ol Times Sake' qualifies in that department. It's witty, charming, heartfelt and guaranteed to make you smile. With the exception of the Status Quo classic, 'Break the Rules' from 1974, this collection was written by Kevin Jennings, an Englishman who has lived in the heart of the Southern US for a long time and knows all about three chords and the truth. -
