Third release from leading Hammond B3 player Andreas Kissenbeck and his group, Club Boogaloo. The clue to the group's favoured music is in their name - hard-bop, blues inflicted jazz in the tradition of 60's Blue Note organ/sax combos. Solid grooves throughout, incorporating funk, shuffle, swing, soul and boogaloo!
With the exception of "Ebony Jam" by Chester Thompson, "I'm Not Sure" by Cedar Walton, and "NY State of Mind" by Billy Joel, all the compositions are by Andreas Kissenbeck. This album will surely find great favour with DJs such as Gilles Peterson and fans of organ forerunners, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff and others.
The quartet features: tenor saxophonist Peter Kissenbeck who has some thirteen albums under his name as leader in groups that include players John Abercrombie, Rufus Reid Jeff Hamilton, Carl Allen and others; guitarist Torsten Goodsand who records for the German label, ACT; and drummer Tobias Backhaus who has recently been working with Gwilyn Simcock.
