Description
Dejan Terzic takes us with his quartet Melanoia - the name stands for the interplay of melancholy and paranoia - on a tour into the heart of his dreams. Terzic spins linear narrative threads, but without evoking concrete figures or landscapes in his listeners. The suggestive power of music is more like a train ride through the twilight, in which the outer worlds blur. Dejan is a drummer/composer and with saxophonist Hayden Chisholm (New Zealand), guitarist Ronny Graupe and pianist Achim Kaufmann he formed an all-star German jazz group. The debut of 'Melanoia' earned him the ECHO JAZZ award 2014 as best national drummer. In a way the personalities of these virtuosic masters of understatement become more important than their instruments leading to the situation that there is no soloing in the classic sense. The short and discreet excursions of the four artists rather function as means to colour and point out the architecture of the compositions.
