  • Description

The French Jobic le Masson Trio is not a trio. It is a six handed, three pairs of feet monster. A Jazz fantasy that draws from the landscape of the influence of the Cool, Bebop and Free music schools. An eclectic pantheon where Monk, Ellington and Cecil Tylor co-exist with Satie in a challenging , sensitive and extraordinary blend. They have been playing for long periods of time and you can hear it: their music got fine tuned on stage and on the road, in bars and clubs in France and elsewhere. It is clear that the presence of Steve Potts and John Betsch - both played for years with Steve Lacy - pushes the group into a Lacy dimension. Pianist Jobic Le Masson was born in France in 1968 and started his musical education at the age of 7 at the Conservatory. Age sixteen he moved to the US on his own and attended the Greenwich High School in Connecticut where he studied music theory and composition. In 1987 he attended the Berklee School of Music and returned to Paris after graduating in 1990. Personnel: Jobic Le Masson (piano), Peter Giron (bass), John Betsch (drums) plus Steve Potts (soprano and tenor saxophone).
