Fair England's Shore: English Traditional Songs

Since his tragic death in 1991 Peter Bellamy has achieved something akin to cult status on the folk scene. Following the demise of the equally iconic Young Tradition, Peter launched himself on a solo career. This double CD for the price of one is made up of his first three solo albums dating from 1968 and 1969: Mainly Norfolk, Fair England's Shore and The Fox Jumps Over the Parson's Gate. Even at that early stage Peter was revealing a very highly distinctive vocal style, based on the traditional East Anglian singers, Sam Larner and Harry Cox. This collection also serves as a marvellous introduction to English traditional songs as Peter had a repertoire which was always varied and contained classics of the genre.
