Description
One of the architects of the English folk revival presented for the first time in a 'live' concert recording.
A.L. 'Bert' Lloyd, along with his contemporary, Ewan MacColl was one of the architects of the folk revival in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a mentor to so many artists like The Watersons, Martin Carthy, Anne Briggs, Louis Killen, Frankie Armstrong and Peter Bellamy. He was also artistic director of Topic Records. Essentially Bert was a great communicator and despite a considerable discography this is the first 'live' recording to be issued.
His programme contains a fair mixture of his English and Australian folk songs as well as Bert telling stories. All his recordings feature songs and his storytelling has been very much neglected. With this collection you also get Bert introducing songs - never lecturing, despite his vast knowledge, simply informed and witty. An interesting insight to a remarkable man.
