Description
Hughie Jones was a founder member of The Spinners, arguably the most popular and well-known Folk group the UK has ever produced: they had a weekly TV programme as well as appearing as guests on other TV shows; they had a recording contract with the major Phillips Record company and produced a string of LPs; they toured major concert venues in the UK and abroad. When the group finally called it a day they all went there separate ways. Hughie Jones continued singing. Today he still runs a weekly folk club and tours in the UK and the USA. He can be seen at Maritime Festivals where-ever they occur.
This is his fourth CD for Fellside. Being a native of Liverpool it is no surprise that he has an interest in maritime songs. This collection comprises some of his own songs, songs by well-known and lesser known writers plus some well tried traditional favourites. He has assembled around him well establlshed musicians like Brian Peters, Dave Russell, John McCormick and Bob Conroy alongside young singers like Greg Russel, Bob Hallard and Andy Hughes.
Hughie has maintained a faithful following of ex-Spinners fans as well as building up a newer, younger group.
