Shine is the first EP released by London based singer/songwriter Katina Kangaris. Recorded over a year at Lansdowne Recording Studios in Holland Park, these five haunting tracks are written, played, arranged and produced by Katina. The EP is co-produced by Steve Pelluet at Lansdowne, and features Katina on piano, Fran Andre on cello and Nick Haward on double bass. Katina has packed out London venues including the Ritzy, the Spitz, Notting Hill Arts Club and The Jazz Café and has regular airplay of her tracks on Resonance FM, LGR and Glastonbury FM. With Shine, Katina has produced five menacingly beautiful acoustic pop songs. Lyrically polished, brooding with experience and wisdom, these are songs driven above all by her unique voice; subtle and insinuating one moment, soaring and expansive the next. From the tender minimalism of Not Especially, to the P J Harvey-esque grunginess of Miracle and the epic malice of Shine, this is an assured and mature debut. "I wanted to find the link between all the music I love I'd been singing lots of Greek 1920s rembetika and writing simple Joni type songs at the piano but I've always had a bunch of songs by people like Villa Lobos and Poulenc on the go too. I think it's possible to cross musical boundaries mainly because there aren't any if you approach it all your way."
