Description
Released in February 1984, Talk Talk's second album, It's My Life, marked the end of the group's first phase, when creating pop hits was still on the agenda. Soon to move into the art-pop territory of The Colour of Spring, before staging a complete reinvention on the inscrutable masterpiece Spirit of Eden, the band still had one foot in the synth-pop world when they made an appearance on Germany TV show RockPop In Concert on 21 November, 1984.
Opening with their early manifesto - and the song which gave the group their name - Talk Talk, frontman Mark Hollis led the band through much of the It's My Life album, including an urgent Such A Shame, the album's soaring title track, and an evocative, cinematic set closer in the shape of Ren?e. Two years later, Talk Talk would head down the irreversible path towards shaking off the last vestiges of their early pop-inclined incarnation, making this broadcast recording an essential document of their crucial first era.
