  • Description

Peals is William Cashion (Future Islands) and Bruce Willen (Double Dagger), two bass players for some of Baltimore’s most revered bands known for their passionate and energetic live performances. With Peals, the duo creates intimate ambient music based in improvisation, flipping the bombast of their other groups on its head in pursuit of a more subdued muse. Peals released their debut album, “Waking Field, on Thrill Jockey Records in 2013 to acclaim from critics and fans of their respective bands. They quickly followed it with the Seltzer EP in 2014 before William left for an 18 month Future Islands tour. Upon returning, Peals got together and started performing again without missing a beat. The result is Honey. “Punk Migration, track 5 on the record, features James Iha (formerly of The Smashing Pumpkins) on vocals and guitar. “Future Islands' William Cashion and Bruce Willen of Double Dagger join together for an instrumental album rich in textural layering, immediately engaging yet hypnotically serene. Recalling Galaxie 500, Stars of the Lid, and Rachel's, it's a peaceful soujourn from their day jobs as outlandish lynch pins of the Baltimore scene. - Pitchfork “Like classic analog ambient albums, Peals' organic instrumentation creates a warm sense of depth that isn't typically found in modern electronic releases. - All Music
