Description
The 15-strong brass band from Romagna in Italy unites the Sicilian tradition of brass band music with world music, global sounds and jazz as they address social issues of the day. Special guests include kora player Mamadou Diabate, Matt Darraiau on alto sax and trumpeter Mauro Ottolini. With a strong rhythmic pulse underlying the whole album and strong, energetic soloing, the music will appeal to lovers of jazz as well fans of Balkan brass music . The band's eclectic approach is typified by a long, absorbing kora solo by Mamadou Diabate on 'Le Chemin du Griot'. Other guests include Matt Darriau (Klezmatics, Paradox Trio) on alto sax and Mauro Ottolini (Enrico Rava groups) on trumpet and trombone. Founded in 2008 by Massimo Eusebio and Stefano Bertozzi, in a few years Banda Olifante has appeared at major international festivals has maintained close relations with the national and international music world with strong African and North American connections as well as great collaborations with Frank London, Michel Godard, As Niang, Simon Zanchini and Cesare Dell'Anna. -
