The Magic Touch: The Classic Early Years 1954-1956

With string accompaniments and the uncommon inclusion of a female singer as part of the ensemble The Platters had an instantly recognisable sound. There are hits aplenty here, "Only You" reached #1 in the R&B Charts and "The Great Pretender" and "My Prayer" both topped the US charts, plus more top ten hits. 1954 to 1956 is arguably the best time period for The Platters and will have them remembered as one of the most successful and recognisable black vocal groups of that time.
