Urban Blues Singing Legend

Jimmy Witherspoon (1923-1997) was one of the great urban blues singers of the post-World War Two period, who - after a lean period in the second half of the 50's- went on to enjoy an internationally respected career until lung cancer slowed him down (but didn't stop him) in the decade before his death.. He first recorded with the Jay McShann band in 1945, singing Walter Brown's "Confessing The Blues", which he made his own, as he did "Hard Working Man's Blues". Other successes in the '40s included "Have You Ever Loved A Woman", "Money's Getting Cheaper", "Times Getting' Tougher Than Tough" and the R&B No.1 "Ain't Nobody's Business Parts 1 & 2", which was on the chart for 34 weeks in 1949. These and following hits such as "In The Evening (When The Sun Goes Down)", "Big Fine Girl" and "No Rollin' Blues" are all here on this 108 track, 4CD set, annotated by noted blues historian Neil Slaven.
