A Jazz Club Session With Cy Laurie's Jazz Band
Compact Disc (Audio)

This is the first release in a new series based on a collection of recordings made by the late Allan Gilmour at the famous Dancing Slipper in Nottingham. Lake Records recently acquired the rights from Allan's estate. The recordings were all made in the 1960s and 70s. Cy fronted one of the leading bands during the 1950s and his club in Great Windmill Street, Soho, was the stuff of legend. Suddenly in 1960 he quit and left for India to study meditation (pre-dating the Beatles!) ensuring him cult status on the British Jazz Scene. He returned in 1963, but didn't resume playing until 1968. This CD is by his last full-time band at typical club session. It is a particularly well recorded session and the band is particularly 'hot'. It gives an audio picture of a first rate band in a typical jazz club of that era. LAKE has always championed his music with five CDs to date.
