Description
The original 10" LP, New Orleans To London, is one of the classic landmark albums of the British jazz scene.
Ken Colyer had returned from New Orleans and waiting in London was a band formed by Chris Barber and including Monty Sunshine and Lonnie Donegan. They were an instant success. The band was first formed under Ken Colyer's name.
One track,"Isle of Capri" when released on a single was a minor hit.The band set the bench mark of the pianoless British Trad band. It lasted barely a year and on Colyer's departure Chris Barber took over leadership and the band continues to this day.
The second 10" LP, Back To The Delta, was by Colyer's next line-up and featured a then unknown Acker Bilk as well as other British jazz stalwarts, Diz Disley and Stan Greig. There are two sessions with slightly different line-ups. One session was only issued in the US and the tracks are very rare. They are presented here as bonus tracks.
The CD is completed by the only two known 'live' tracks recorded by the band at the Royal Festival Hall. This is very much a collector's item and will have a cult following.
