Description
On 'The Messenger' Kevin Eubanks delivers an evocative rock-infused, blues-dipped communiqué on modern jazz guitar. Improvising on powerful originals, tunes by Jeff Beck, John Coltrane and joined by brothers Duane and Robin, the former Tonight Show bandleader Eubanks blows it up!Eubanks is joined on most tracks by his sterling fellow quartet members: Billy Pierce on reeds, Rene Camacho on bass, Marvin "Smitty" Smith on drums and Joey De Leon, Jr. on percussion. This project also has a family flavour, featuring younger brother Duane on trumpet ("Sister Veil," "JB," "420"), and older brother Robin on trombone ("JB," "Queen Of Hearts").
For many years Kevin Eubanks operated as musical director of NBC's 'Tonight Show with Jay Leno' on U.S. TV but in 2010 he left this prestigious position to concentrate on his recording career. He has performed many leading jazz musicians including McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey and Dave Holland and has recorded for Elektra, GRP and Blue Note.
