A Fagail Mhiughalaigh (Leaving Mingulay)

Singer and Clarsach player, Maggie MacInnes, sings of the remote Scottish island of Mingulay, accompanied by top musicians including amongst others Michael McGoldrick & Anna Massie. Gaelic music and song from Maggie MacInnes, telling the story of the island of Mingulay in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland which was last inhabited in 1912. Maggie has included some of the music she put together for a BBC documentary about the island produced by MNE Media.The material includes both traditional songs which were part of the island's rich Oral Tradition and some original melodies composed by Maggie. Maggie's Great- Grandparents were from Mingulay and she has always had a fascination for the island. The struggle of the Mingulay people to survive in such a remote, windswept, beautiful but harsh place in a fast changing world supported only by their strong sense of community and their faith, is a power powerful and moving story.
