Contains unissued performances by The Grateful Dead and Laura Nyro, plus classics by Jimi Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield, Simon and Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Otis Redding, The Who, The Mamas & the Papas.- The festival is remembered as the major American breakout performances for Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, The Who, and Janis Joplin - Predated Woodstock by two years, was the first defining, large-scale rock festival in the US- Album cover features the iconic original poster artwork for the 1967 festival, set in a gold backdrop to acknowledge the golden anniversary of the festival this year & includes a new essay by NME journalist Keith Altham, who attended the festival in 1967.- 50th Anniversary festival is scheduled for June 16-18, 2017 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, Monterey CA. featuring Leon Bridges, Father John Misty, Regina Spektor, Charles Bradley, Eric Burdon & The Animals, etc.- D.A. Pennebaker's legendary "Monterey Pop" documentary will be re-released as a special Criterion Collection DVD/Blu-Ray edition, which will be issued Autumn 2017.
