Forever Elvin
Description
'Forever Elvin' was recorded in 2006 at The Fleece at Boxford in front of an audience whose enthusiasm helped turn what was likely to be a memorable jazz gig into a scintillating one. The programme that night appropriately included material by John Coltrane and McCoy Tyner together with two distinctive tunes penned by the drummer himself, "EJ's Blues" and "Three Card Molly" - both pieces were performed by Jones' own bands for many years.
The energy and commitment of the band to this project is a fitting tribute to a great musician, and a testament not only to the unique musical legacy left by Elvin Jones, but also a wonderful record of the quality, energy, and strength in depth of these five renowned British musicians.
Personnel: Peter King (alto saxophone), Alan Skidmore (tenor saxophone), Steve Melling (piano), Alec Dankworth (double bass), Martin Drew (drums)
