"I was talking to my manager about what songs I was thinking of including on the record," says Moorer, "And he said 'Well, you'll write something for it, right? I mean, you are a female songwriter'. Yes. I am". So Allison wrote a new song especially for this project, the compelling title track. Apart from that, though, here she pays tribute to women songwriters & performers she has much admired over the years. In order of play, June Carter Cash, Patti Smith, Nina Simone, Kate McGarrigle, Gillian Welch, Joni Mitchell, Gertrude 'Ma' Rainey, a previously unrecorded song by her sister Shelby Lynne, Julie Miller, Chan Marshall (Cat Power) and Jessi Colter. "The first song I ever learned to sing by myself", Allison reveals about the closing performance.
