This musical gem from some 40 years ago comes from Amjad Ali Khan's first all-night concert, which helps explain the length of these extracts. He explores one raga over two discs, presented over two volumes.
Not only does Amjad Ali Khan, present this album as his tribute to the late Pandit Kishan Maharaj with whom he performs, but this remarkably rare all night concert marked his 26th Birthday on October 9, 1971. Because of the age of the recordings there are some obtrusive edits, a few brief losses of sound quality and occasional changes of tone colour.
"There were two intermissions and the entire audience at the over packed Kalamandir Auditorium was served cake and sodas (just like a birthday party) at the intermission.
