Piazzolla's defiantly unique music in truly authentic performances from the Piazzolla Quintet, an ensemble originally founded by Piazzolla's widow in order to keep the composer's legacy alive. This disc brings together some of Piazzolla's most vibrant and fascinating music, pulsating with life and rhythm whilst hinting at deeper emotions simmering beneath the surface.
The first and original Piazzolla Quintet was formed during the 1960s, causing a sensation among the young public with their provocative and melodic sound. Piazzolla's music has always had a sort of elaborate and intellectual style that attracted rebellious spirits.
After the composer's death, the Astor Piazzolla Foundation was founded with the objective of continuing and promoting the maestro's legacy to the public. The composer's widow, Laura Escalada Piazzolla, decided to create a new ensemble with five virtuoso soloists capable of interpreting the vast body of work left by the composer who revolutionized tango.
The current Astor Piazzolla Quintet has toured the world for more than 20 years. It has been acclaimed by the international press as the only musical ensemble with the ability to represent the unique and inimitable style of the great Astor Piazzolla.
"... a group of immense musicality, perfect ensemble, and all the technique and essence of tango needed in order to execute what Piazzolla intended with his compositions." Eduardo Rivero, Music Critic at the Solís Theatre (Montevideo, Uruguay)
