  • Description

Imprint is the second in a series of EPs from the internationally acclaimed multi award winning Scottish fiddler, composer and producer Aidan O'Rourke (Lau, BBC Folk Musician of the Year 2014). Written and recorded with Anna Meredith - laptop, percussion (former composer in residence with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra & Sinfonia Viva), Tom Rogerson (Three Trapped Tigers) - piano, keyboards and John Blease drums, percussion (Goldie, Ghostpoet, Heritage Orchestra, Antony & The Johnsons). The follow up to his 2015 released and widely acclaimed Music For Film & Exhibition EP Series 1.0. IMPRINT verb 1. to produce a mark or pattern on a surface 2. to impart a strong or vivid impression 3. to fix firmly as in the mind "A magical environment: The Cabrach, Strathbogie and Strathdeveron valleys. Uncovering places that were central to earlier settlers of the land - crofters, the Picts and the nameless peoples of deeper prehistory. This music is inseparable from the flows of landscape change and the fusion of history and place" (Gordon Noble - University of Aberdeen) "Few contemporary musicians in any category can match either his artistic ambitions or his achievements in bringing them to fruition" (Scotsman) "O'Rourke's music - both his writing and playing - is unfailingly strong and imaginative" (The List) A thrilling live performer Aidan O'Rourke (a member of the UK's most musically adventurous folk trio Lau) has secured a place at the very forefront of the modern music scene. He has been performing, writing and releasing consistently creative music (that has a reach far beyond folk) for over a decade. Aidan O'Rourke won BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Musician of the Year 2014 before recording and touring the hugely acclaimed new Lau album The Bell That Never Rang (produced by Brooklyn artist Joan As Police Woman), co-curating a three day festival (Lau-Land) featuring a collaboration with Tinariwen and shows by Sun Kil Moon and electronic music pioneers Plaid. All that before recording and writing Imprint in Scotland through the spring and summer of 2015. 'Visionary in that it plays on your mind's eye and promotes visions and as such lives up to its title admirably. Where Aidan will take us next is anyone's guess but Music For Exhibition & Film sets down a serious marker, it's extraordinary' - Album of the Month FRUK (FolkRadio.UK.co.uk) "Confident free-thinking music that will enthrall" (Sunday Herald)
