  • Description

The Beat Goes On is a homage to The Beat Generation, the anti-conformist literary youth movement that developed in the United States during the fifties which included authors such as Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and Lawrence Ferlinghetti among its more representative writers.
The 'Beat' were college students, poets and novelists hungry for culture and new experiences, devoted to endless philosophical musings and to a mysticism induced by drugs and alcohol, living 'on the road' as a means of self-discovery.
The Beat Goes On recounts the dreams of this visionary generation through original and well-known music.
The concept arose from their unsteadying words, at times mystical at times revolutionary.
The album mirrors these ideas in music ranging from Monk's jazz to Bob Dylan's folk, from suggestive backgrounds based on electronics and sampling to moments of collective free improvisation creating an atmosphere of contrasts.
All of the tracks, either composed or arranged by Elisabetta Antonini, revel in dreams of journeying, hallucinations, ecstasy, mystic contemplation, cosmic love, refusal of conventions, and especially jazz music.
The Beat Poets looked to jazz musicians for inspiration and tried to emulate their expressive energy.
The voices of Kerouac, Ginsberg, Corso, Burroughs, Ferlinghetti have been chosen on most of the tracks as the common thread throughout the whole work, making them the real protagonists of the cd in a creative and original dialog with the music.
Elisabetta Antonini, sophisticated singer from Rome as well as a talented composer and arranger, is the first Italian singer signing with Candid.
Thanks to her capability to create original and unique projects and to her versatility that makes her active in the jazz scene with a classic as well as contemporary jazz repertoire, she has collaborated with great musicians as Kenny Wheeler, Paul McCandless, Vassilis Tsabropoulos, Andy Gravish, apart many of the best Italian jazz musicians.
"I have just heard a fantastic recording honouring the Beat Generation and to say this recording is wonderful would definitely be an understatement.
I'm thrilled that a group of beautiful young musicians have shown such tremendous depth and understanding for my heroes.
This is a recording full of great musicianship, strong knowledge of the bebop era and a deep, soulful understanding of jazz.
I want to thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for keeping jazz music alive....
I love you all dearly!" - Sheila Jordan
