Description
French-Brazilian alto saxophonist and vocalist Idriss Boudrioua delivers an elegant album of mainstream and Latin jazz. With a quintet that features some of Brazil's best musicians, Boudrioua performs his own original compositions plus two standards, including the album's title track, 'Laura' by composer David Raskin and featured in the 1944 film of the same name.
A former worker at the Selmar saxophone factory in Paris, Boudrioua's love of Brazilian music took him to Rio where he established himself as an in-demand sideman, earning the nickname of 'Mr. Alto'. As well as playing and recording with the best Brazilian musicians and orchestras, including MPM (Música Popular Brasileira), Boudrioua carved out a career as a leader in his own right, fronting his own trios and quartets. Internationally he has worked with among others, Chet Baker, Tania Maria, Claudio Roditi and Marcus Valle with whom he toured and performed at London's Jazz Café a few years back.
Personnel: Idriss Boudrioua (alto saxophone and vocals), Alexandre Carvalho (guitar), Vitor Concalves (piano), Sergio Barrozo (bass), Isaias (drums)
