Description
Recorded live at the Bird's Eye Jazz Club in Basel on December 14, 2013, American pianist Jon Davis, a former Jaco Pastorius collaborator, performs a selection of jazz standards and one original compositions in the company of local rhythm section featuring Isla Eckinger on bass and Peter Schmidlin on drums. A relaxed and swinging session, the program includes Herbie Hancock's "Driftin", Fats Waller's "Jitterbug Waltz" and Benny Carter's "When Lights Are Low".
New York pianist and composer Jon Davis has been performing and touring with many of the finest jazz musicians around world for more than 25 years and appeared on over 50 recordings. A student of Lennie Tristano, Jaki Byard, Madame Chaloff and Ran Blake, Jon established himself as a regular 'in demand' sideman, working regularly with musicians such as John Handy, Joe Henderson, Milt Jackson and Stan Getz. He later became an important force on the West Coast where he teamed up with drummer Brian Melvin and formed an association with bass legend Jaco Pastorius that would last several years and produce five albums, including the classic 'Standard Time', which is the only piano trio recording Pastorius ever participated in.
Personnel: Jon Davis (piano), Isla Eckinger (bass), Peter Schmidlin (drums)
